I truly love philosophy. But I do not love the philosophical far left, nor the philosophical far right. These thinkers are at the extremes because their judgment isn’t balanced. It is detached from human reality, and leads to conclusions that are similarly detached.
What I love to see is the philosophy of a well-balanced mind. One that can see the strength of the opposed position as well as that which is proposed, so that it remains open to the breezes of experience, and capable of walking in wisdom.
The reason adolescents, even if they are extremely intelligent, are not well equipped for philosophy is that they often lack such balance. They are attracted to the daring and clarity of the extremes, confusing such daring for truth.
But truth itself is found in the proper balance among competing principles. We can be bold in declaring the truth, but must be exceedingly cautious and subtle in the finding of it.
