It stops Theresa May using the threat of no deal to blackmail parliament into voting for her withdrawal agreement.

Letwin-Cooper says that if Theresa May can't get her withdrawal agreement through parliament, then she has to ask Europe for a long extension to the Article 50 process.
A long extension is the last thing Theresa May wants, which is why she is now trying to scratch up a majority with Jeremy Corbyn. It's now her only chance of getting her deal through.
