1/Someone who I know claimed that in the clip in the tweet I quoted, Trump was not talking about asylum seekers. I looked into it, and I believe that Trump was not talking about about asylum seekers but rather he was talking about undocumented immigrants.
2/The person who raised this also claimed that Trump was talking about MS-13. When I looked into it I found this latter claim to be misleading. Here is the original clip. It is from May 2018.
3/A Fresno sheriff asks a long question which includes a reference to MS-13 but also many other things. Trump’s response does not reference MS-13 and if you transcribe it, it seems to be about undocumented immigrants in general;
4/for example, he talks in general about people who are caught by authorities and released.
There is some ambiguity about who exactly Trump is refereeing to by animals, and Trump later claimed he was talking about MS-13 but I do *not* take him at his word.

5/I bring this up because my credibility is important to me, and I think it was misleading that the tweet I was quoting mentioned asylum seekers.
6/It is important to note that Republicans have repeatedly tried to associate MS-13 with immigrants more generally and Trump has consistently spoken in such a way as to suggest that all immigrants in general are criminals, which is, needless to say, beneath contempt.
7/If I had it to do again, I probably would not have tweeted. I think that in the clip, Trump was dehumanizing people, and the attitude that Trump and many other Republicans have expressed toward asylum seekers, undocumented immigrants, and immigrants in general is shameful.
