It was a great honour & pleasure to have spent an hour chatting Governance with Chief John Nnia Nwodo, President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo. I was blown away by his intellect, grace, charm and polish. I had some hard questions for him, including what “Restructiring” meant. Thread.
I had noticed Chief Nwodo and just greeted him, like everyone else was doing. Lo and behold, we were to sit next to each other on the Enugu-Abuja Air Peace flight. First thing he said when he sat next to me is: “You must introduce me to your tailor.”😊
Former Minister of Planning Prof Osita Ogbu then introduced us and told him that I had just been the speaker at the last #NkataUmuIbe. He apologized for missing it. It was my opportunity to then tell him I had criticised Ohaneze at the event for taking sides in the last election.
He explained that the major issue for Ohaneze was “Restructuring” and that only one candidate firmly committed to it. He said he had no regrets and would support as many candidates as are committed to “Restructuring.” I asked him what he meant by “Restructuring.”
He said “Restructuring” meant two things to him;
1. A return to regional governance, where regions are free to create or merge states; and
2. “Sovereignty over resources.”

We discussed the role of the legislature in these and the practicalities of actualising it.
He decried the lack of ambition and big picture visioning in Nigeria generally and the lack of integrated forward-thinking in the South East. He was pleased that @EmekaIhedioha had asked me to help out in Imo. We exchanged cards and agreed to talk in much more detail soon. End.
