I am relieved that the sad Onoghen saga seems to be finally at an end. It is regrettable that Nigeria’s CJN allowed himself to be in a position that led to him being placed in the dock for ANY offence at all. It is sad for our Judiciary that the CJN case became an APC/PDP issue.
All I feel is relief that CJN Onnoghen has resigned as I had said that I would have if, God forbid, I had found myself in the same position. I hope that the entire saga, unfortunate on every side, is the lowest we will descend and that it can be a turning point for major reforms.
I considered doing a thread on some of the nuances around the NJC’s reported findings and recommendations and possible consequences, but decided against it. There is too much political toxicity around the issue leading to DELIBERATE ignorance by those who should know better.
For the benefit of the few that truly desire to improve their knowledge of the public sector, I will soon find time to explain how the Code of Conduct Bureau works, including the misunderstood issue of asset verification. For now, I will close my case on the Onoghen matter. ✌🏽
