As a Kiwi journalist in exile - after being wrongfully targeted by the same NZ security agencies who profoundly failed us in Christchurch - and the organiser of #ProtectJulian which trended in USA, Australia & Ecuador on Friday - I would like to author a reply to the smear. 2/3
Are you able to arrange for me to submit a right of reply? If not, who at @nzherald should I be speaking to? Such an egregious act as an NZ Herald contributor attacking a multi-awarded journalist & publisher who has been twice vindicated by the United Nations deserves a response.

This is a great idea. Unfortunately internet security is unobtainable for 99% of people. We can take basic steps to improve our practices but we can't protect ourselves from the nation state actors that oppose us. That said... 1/2

...many people in the position of being a target are so used to having no privacy/their privacy violated, that to simply not be isolated, even in a non-secure tech environment, would be a huge improvement for them. So yes somehow we need to create a welcoming atmosphere for them

Thread: I'm going to explain what it was that had me so frustrated on Feb 28. It's taken me 20 days (& 7 years) to fully form my thoughts on the topic. I am both seeing it, and living it. My best attempt to describe it will now follow.

Every single day I am contacted by people around the world who are in precarious situations - people to whom few will listen and even fewer will offer any meaningful support. Whistleblowers in various stages of litigation; or who are wanting to litigate; targets of intel agencies
They think because I am a journalist and because I have a public profile, that I will be able to help to get them justice, or to inform people, or to protect them, or to comfort them. Whistleblowers and intel agency targets desperately need that comfort, support and assistance.

Media are asking why New Zealand intel agencies didn't know about the fascist white supremacist mass killer/s in Christchurch?

Answer - they were too busy squandering counterterrorism resources spying on @GreenpeaceNZ, @ManaMovement & activists like me:

& yes the fascist, white supremacist mass killer/s are & should be called terrorist. It's precisely that type of armed psychopath that counter-terrorism resources are supposed to be dedicated to unearthing - not unarmed, non-violent, journalist solo mothers from the suburbs.
Journalism is not terrorism. Non-violent pro-democratic activism is not terrorism.

Arming yourself with weapons and attacking innocent people is terrorism.

Intelligence agencies who have been engaged in blurring that distinction for their own ends must be held to account.

(1) I'm using a new term for those Twitter accounts posing as Trump supporters, that seek to engage, distract and divide Trump supporters online: Disinfo spreaders. It's a time honored strategy.
(2) When I use the term "time honored strategy" I'm saying the strategy has proven effective over a long period of time. It's one of my key messages in this thread: That our adversaries learned the lessons of history better than we have... until now.
(3) Here's where the Trump admin stands on Russia: In a nomination hearing, Pompeo cited Putin having said (words to the same effect) that in his opinion the worst thing from the 20th century was the break-up of the Soviet Union. Let me unpack this.

After 70 years of imperial/neoliberal indoctrination the web of lies is so obviously absurde (9/11, Skripal, WH = ISIS, etc.), that it is dissoluting. The empathetic humanity connects, closes ranks and sends their eternal psychopathic rulers and their lackeys into nowhere land.
The "evil empire" is a lifelong three year old child. I certainly loved my children at that age too, however only because they created not only a surreal mess, but also made steady progress.

A great documentary about psychopathy and society:
The elite invented "democracy" to protect them from the empathetic people. The media are their means for misleading the people sedated by "democracy". This is definitely a bad thing since the people have become educated and the elite almost totally insane.
