Fun fact: The entity Trump just deemed a "terrorist" organization was widely known to have deep financial ties to the Trump Organization's business partners in Azerbaijan, which Trump's people knew but kept working with anyway, throughout the 2016 election newyorker.com/magazine/2017/… 
Trump's company learned of the possible connections 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟱, but never asked, and never did a "look-back." They didn't ultimately end the deal until December 2016.
It's worth noting the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other anti-money laundering statutes require companies like the Trump Organization to conduct due diligence that the Trump Organization pretty clearly didn't do.
Trump almost definitely knew what the law required, because he was on TV a month after his Azerbaijan deal was finalized, getting incenced about the law and saying it puts US companies at a disadvantage
I think about @adamdavidson's Azerbaijan report at least once a month because in any other presidency, it would have been a legacy-defining scandal. Yet, it's barely a blip in the Trump era.
