We’re running out of ways to say it. This world is in crisis and it’s getting worse by the day. People need to wake up before it’s too late. The work necessary to fix this mess is arduous and only getting harder the longer it takes to get started.
This is about way more than elections. We need to re-evaluate how our system works because its flaws and deep inequalities got us here and we won’t move forward until we can figure a way out. Just fixating on horserace politics is only going to exacerbate the problem.
Trump isn’t the illness, he’s a symptom. Even if he’s beat in 2020 the factors that led to him and his base gaining power are going to still be there. We’re in a moment of reckoning, and if the people with the power to weigh in and help can’t recognize that we are in real trouble

All right. I just finished the Mueller Report. I'm going to combine the most shocking and important revelations in one thread. Long and short: there was collusion, there was obstruction, Donald Trump needs to be removed from office. Immediately. 1/
Mueller found that Russia was actively interested in electing Trump president, as early as his announcement, if not earlier. Operations began just as Trump Campaign took off. Obvious the two are parallel organizations that occasionally worked together, had the same goals. 2/
Multiple members of the Trump Campaign were approached by Russia. They were receptive sometimes, other times they just proceeded with knowledge that Russia was interfering on their behalf. They were not ignorant of the fact that Russia was interfering, not at all. 3/

In one of the worst crises in human history, we're still looking at everything the wrong way: it's not liberal democracy vs. rising fascism. It's faux-liberal democracy vs. rising fascism, and it's that distinction that makes the crisis possible in the first place. 1/
I was reading something today that characterized Russia as championing itself as "anti-liberal," but that's not true. Outwardly, it presents as a liberal democracy, but it's so obvious that everyone knows it's not. That facade is the problem, and we have the same issue. 2/
We wouldn't be seeing the rise of authoritarianism and fascism if liberal democracies were real. What we ACTUALLY have right now is an aristocracy that is described as a liberal democracy, a wolf in sheep's clothing. That distinction is why this country is in so much trouble. 3/

It feels like civilization could collapse because there’s a threat of society collapsing. This whole thing could fall apart and it’s the most tragic thing imaginable.
This isn’t hyperbole. It’s not just reaction to Notre Dame, although that fire makes a potent metaphor. There’s a real and persistent threat to liberal democracy and Enlightenment principles. That’s what’s radiating today.
Believing our institutions will survive simply because they’ve survived isn’t enough. They can go up in smoke any day, any time. It’s happened before, and we have to be cognizant of that.

This is what happens in Authoritarian regimes where the head of state tells his loyalists to commit crimes w no repercussions. We still have Democratic laws on the books so it’s harder for trump but this is where he is headed as he places his loyalists in amp.cnn.com/cnn/2019/04/12…
And it won’t stop with issues like closing the border. Trump will use this wherever he feels the need too. I keep warning and repeating. People need to wake up and realize that it can happen here and is at a very fast pace

1. There's been a lot of news lately about people in the Autonomous Vehicle industry realizing the problem they're trying to solve is much trickier than they initially hoped.

I think there’s a good analogy in a similar technology: self-checkouts.
2. Self-checkouts have been around a while. Companies have been working on them since 1984, and they’ve been in stores around the country for nearly two decades. As you well know if you’ve used one, they also still kinda suck. vox.com/the-goods/2018…
3. This is not for a lack of financial incentives! A company that could figure the technology out would be able to replace billions a year in labor. Even a marginal improvement on the tech would be incredibly valuable as current systems feature staggering losses to shoplifters
