EU red tape has been considered out of scope for so long, both Whitehall and business lobbies have forgotten Brexit creates major opportunities to amend what was previously complained about.

Critical point in this is how Whitehall has added to the problem. A combination I think of (a) overregulating in order to reduce risk of being fined by the Commission for non-compliance, plus (b) bolting on other laws for admin convenience, leading to (c) attitudinal ingraining
And a lack of interest, as it reinforces the narrative of the need to leave the EU...
Plus I fear a genuine lack of confidence that Government can mend its ways outside the EU? At least a marker of the scale of the task at hand, and the qualities needed of the next PM.
