Practice Saying No to Requests for Your Time

Most people have far more work than they can possibly get to. That’s why it’s so important to say no to things that aren’t a great use of your time. But turning people down can be uncomfortable.
To get better at it, practice saying no politely and gracefully. For example, if a colleague asks you to do something that isn’t your job, you might say: “That isn’t my area of expertise, but I’m happy to connect you with Kei, who could help.”
If you’re asked to attend a meeting or join a project that you don’t have time for, say: “Thanks so much, but I have to decline. My schedule is at capacity right now.”
If you’re asked to finish a task on a too-tight deadline, say: “I would love to help, but due to my other commitments, I won’t be able to finish by that deadline. Can I get it back to you by next week?”

Get Your Time Back by Getting Your Inbox Under Control

Email can be a black hole that swallows productivity, but a few changes to your inbox habits can help you take back your time.
First, don’t let yourself check email more often than once per hour, and turn off any notifications that tempt you to. Most people don’t expect you to respond immediately, and doing so keeps you from concentrating on other tasks.
Second, move emails out of your inbox the first time you read them, so you don’t waste time by having to read them again later. Put messages into two folders: one for those that require a response and one for those that don’t.

Since its introduction of the Galaxy series, @samsung has remained very popular in the Sub Saharan Africa and has leveraged the mobile market to gain traction for most of it's other products.

Today's #SWOTSunday is on the growth of Samsung and its continuous relevance.
Samsung started in 1938 as a small trading company located in Su-dong near Daegu city. It was founded by Lee Byung-chul. He had only forty employees and the company’s major business was production and distribution of groceries within the city.
In 1947, as the company began to grow Lee put up their office in Seoul. He soon started a sugar refinery which also succeeded in a very short span of time. Lee was a very ambitious person and in 1954 built the largest woolen mill in Korea located in the suburbs of Daegu city.

Endurance events are way way way way harder mentally than any strength event

Running an ultra > doing 3 barbell lifts

-strength minded people like to bullshit themselves, but the reality is that we don’t have the sickening mentality to handle doing anything that long
Obviously some people are far more built for endurance than they are for strength, so there is a natural physical talent aspect of this

Regardless, endurance feats are still mentally tougher

-I don’t lie to myself about that kind of mental toughness
I’ve got friends that run marathons, they have an edge I sure as fuck do not have

i’d rather get my ass beat sparring for 30 minutes straight then run for a half hour

As such, here's 8 quick tips to have an DIALED IN marriage.

A good marriage is not always 50/50. That’s not realistic.

Sometimes it’s 50/50, sometimes is 80/20, sometimes it’s 40/60 — just depends on the situation.

It’s easy to love when everything is going well.

Carry the load when your spouse needs you to, preferably w/o them asking.
Don’t keep score.

Just focus on giving more than you get.

If you’re doing that, and asking yourselves, “What can I do for him/her?” Instead of, “What am I getting out of this?” you’ll be together for a long time.

People make mistakes when they interpret "Wokeness" as a response to or interpretation of facts. It's a purely religious phenomenon & can only be accurately judged as an imaginative mythology, as it is purely value-based in its hermeneutics (& denies "objectivity" entirely).
As I've said before, the most "Socially Constructed" of all discourses is Social Constructionism. You cannot argue with these people with Ben Shapiro's "Facts & Logic." It's like atheists arguing with monotheists.

You can only argue them on mythopoetic grounds.
The problem is that most mythopoetic thinkers are sucked into the Social Constructionist racket because 1- it inflates their value as thinkers & 2- the "facts & logic" dullards who oppose it do so by downplaying the value of value-discourses (imagination, mythology, etc).

Lessons of my 20s

1. Your personality is not fixed

People can massively change over the years. They become entirely new people, mature, and truly do grow up

You cannot judge people off how they are when they are young,

People DO change
2. Attitude is everything

I play Little League baseball from 6 to 11. I always remember the coaches harping about "attitude, its all about attitude"

They were right.

I've not seen any pessimists do particularly well
Cynicism is acceptable when you're young, but if you never outgrow it,

its cancerous.

People with "good attitudes" do better in EVERYTHING,

which is another lesson

Reading a forthcoming book called Hitler's American Friends.

It's about the America First Committee and will probably be a worthwhile read when it comes out.

There was a lot of infighting about tone -- think alt-lite vs. alt right.
People like Charles Lindbergh were the ones who drummed up the most support for the movement. Because of their openly anti-Semitic views.

There was apparently a lot of fighting between people like Lindbergh & people who thought they should promote fascism with a friendlier tone
And there was a disinformation campaign. Apparently Americans were told that Roosevelt was secretly Jewish and had changed his name from "Rosenfeld." Wow. I did not know this.

I think I figured out why arguments like "an engineers should be on-call" or "all engineers should be deeply involved with production/ops" bother me.

It's not that I disagree, but it sometimes implies an untenable expansion of what a person's job is.
Good version: when your branch is merged, you're expected to be available for 60 minutes afterwards if errors crop up in production. No clicking Merge at 5:30pm on Friday and hopping in a car to go camping.

You were expected to write a feature. This is part of it.
Another good version: put devs on call because the site has reliability issues, and it's suspected that not enough people know where to look for low-hanging fruit. Getting more eyes on the problem helps.

You were expected to build and maintain a service. This is part of it.
