According to sources I’ve spoken to Shamima Begum was not “just a housewife” during her time with ISIS as she made out, she was in fact working with Hisba, or the “morality police” repressing local Syrian women telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/04/1…
“She shouted at a civilian woman wearing brightly coloured shoes and told her that was ‘haram’, as this would attract the attention of men. The woman said to her, ‘so why is it ok for you to wear coloured shoes?’ Shamima was herself wearing white and pink trainers”
Details of Begum’s role in ISIS have come from two sources, including @soundandpic, whose members lived under the jihadists’ rule. Some of the info has been confirmed by Western intelligence, which is understood to be looking into allegations as part of a criminal investigation
The Telegraph has also been shared messages reportedly sent by Miss Begum to a number of girls, including a teenager from Austria, attempting to recruit them.
She used the pseudonym “Umm Asma” online before later changing it to “Umm Ahmed” (meaning Mother of Ahmed).
Shamima told the Austrian girl she was trying to recruit: “Don’t believe any of the bad things you hear about Dawla (the State), it’s fake. You have everything you want here. And we can help find you a good-looking husband.” telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/04/1…
Shamima said she “respected” the decision made by Amira Abase and a fourth Bethnal Green schoolgirl, Sharmeena Begum, to stay in Baghuz. Their names are not on recent camp registration documents seen by The Telegraph, raising the prospect they may have been killed in fighting
Shamima was a minor when she left the UK to join ISIS & we must take that into account. But is said to have taken up a role in the Hisba morality police (which served to terrorise the local population) and in turn recruited other young vulnerable girls telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/04/1…
It doesn't *seem* her and her husband (Dutch fighter Yago Riedijk) kept a Yazidi slave, which, as far as I can make out, is one of few things she has been truthful about in interviews
Shamima gave a telling answer in one of her interviews when asked if she was a danger to society. "They don't have any evidence against me doing anything dangerous," she replied
