1) If by number three you mean he hit 9% when the other 'pack leaders' that aren't biden or sanders are trailing at 7-8%...
2) See, here's what you gotta realize. Back in the day, before Obama, Democrat primaries were always a clusterfuck of candidates. Hillary and Obama duking it out in 2008 was the first time in decades that the Dems coalesced around a few candidates and decided between them.
3) Now? Look at the two front-runners. Biden hasn't even announced he's running yet, and Sanders? The DNC will never let Sanders win the primary. They're utterly fucked if he does, and they know it.
4) The problem is the rest of their candidates are just flashes in the pan. Many of the candidates currently below 6% got up to Buttguy's 9% when they first announced, and then they crashed and burned down to sub-5%. Castro, Gillibrand, Klobucher, Booker.
5) As soon as the name recognition dies off, Buttguy's numbers will drop off too. And the next candidate will have to dive even FURTHER to the left to stand out, because the only person who's played to the center, Gabbard, got NO COVERAGE AT ALL.
6) And THAT is the result of the DNC media only giving attention to the far left positions they've wanted for years. The masks are off now, and its going to get uglier (and funnier) until it gets better.
