UPDATE: National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (@NHGSFP) now feeding over 9.5 million public primary schools (classes 1-3) pupils with one meal a day in 30 states nationwide; employing 101,913 cooks.
Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), which has MarketMoni, FarmerMoni and TraderMoni, currently has a combined total of over 1.7 million Nigerians benefiting from these schemes.
More than 30,000 new TraderMoni beneficiaries added post-elections.
On repayment of their entry-level N10,000 loans, some beneficiaries in some states, including Lagos, Osun, Borno, Ogun and Benue, have now started receiving the next level TraderMoni loan of N15,000.

c1957/58, something happened in a village, Anohia, in Afikpo in what‘s today Ebonyi State. A large portion of the population converted to Islam. They were converted by a native, Okpani Egwani, who‘d traveled to Senegal, found Islam, & changed his name to Alhaji Ibrahim

There’s a fascinating paper on what happened, published by SIMON OTTENBERG of the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1971, and titled: “A Moslem Igbo Village.” I stumbled on it recently.

There are fundamental concerns I cannot address. For example, I may not be able to convince you if you already believe that social welfare programs are evil or stupid. Also, If your preferred positions are guided by your politics, I may not also be able to help. That said . . .
We know from nationally representative surveys that more than 20% of Nigerian children are malnourished. In the Northeast and Northwest, the prevalence is as high as 50%. bit.ly/2qoldY6

The Home Grown School Feeding initiative is a movement driven by national governments to improve the lives of schoolchildren and farmers. It is practised in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Mali, Ethiopia, Namibia, Botswana, Ivory Coast, SA, Brazil, Japan, Italy and other countries.
At the Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Abeokuta, Ogun State, the cooks with aprons on top of their gowns ladle porridge mixed with vegetables and fish into hundreds of stainless steel bowls with lids. As the cooks ambled into a nearby classroom, the pupils remained quiet.
