Social Media Bias Alert: FB disabled the #FacebookAds account of Heartland’s @JustinTHaskins because he wanted to promote the video below, in which he urged Millennials to embrace liberty and reject socialism and be the generation to save America. 1/
Shocking stuff, right? @Facebook thought so. Justin wrote about FB's attempt to silence him at @FoxNews. It got a lot of attn. Here are four screen caps of the opening few paragraphs of the piece. Definitely read the whole thing at the link. 2/ foxnews.com/opinion/justin…
The great @WashTimes published a story tonite on @JustinTHaskins being de-platformed by @Facebook. It’s a good thing, too, bc it’s not an isolated incident among conservatives, but typical & deserving of more coverage. More screen caps and a link. 3/ washingtontimes.com/news/2019/apr/…
Of course, @jlakely offered more comments to @WashTimes than what was printed, as to be expected. But I think it’s important to share everything Jim Lakely emailed to The Washington Times. So here it is. (Full Disclosure: Jim used to work there. Hello, @RHallow_Times !) 4/
Heartland is glad Facebook has seen the error of its ways and restored Justin’s account, but it’s hard to look at the details of this case and consider it merely an innocent mistake. Justin had paid Facebook more than 100 times to promote his conservative work. @JustinTHaskins 5/
Justin’s account was disabled only after he repeatedly, & politely, asked for a credible reason why his account was disabled over this video – a stirring call for Millennials to reject socialism and embrace liberty at a public event broadcast on C-SPAN. 6/
More from @jlakely speaking to @WashTimes about @JustinTHaskins: It would be hard to find a more clear example to make the case that Facebook has bias against conservatives in its corporate culture. 7/
.@jlakely said to @WashTimes: I know of no principled conservative or libertarian who would be comfortable using the immense power that @facebook wields in America’s public debate to suppress the speech of someone on the left. 8/
Yet leftist ideologues consider suppressing the speech of those who oppose them a strategic imperative, and even a virtue. Why is it that FB continually ends up doing to conservatives on its platform exactly what the ideological left would do? 9/
That’s troubling, and there are too many cases to keep thinking it’s just a coincidence. @theMRC @BrentBozell @JustinTHaskins @InTheTankPod 10/ cdn.mrc.org/static/censore…
More from @jlakely to @WashTimes: Just a few short years ago, all of America’s social media giants, including Facebook, erred on the side of respecting and encouraging America’s culture of free speech and open debate. 11/
Today, half of Facebook’s users have good reason to think that is no longer the case. That is a problem Facebook needs to fix to restore its credibility. 12/END
