Since it is Good Friday I figured I’d offer some thoughts on what I’ve come to fully understand about suffering, Bre’s death and God’s Divine Providence. Maybe this will help some of my 5 followers on this hellscape of a website. 1/
Since Bre’s death, I’ve come to realize that suffering is not neutral. Much like the cross (Lk. 2:34) it is either a stumbling block or a stepping stone, it either confuses and frustrates or elicits faith. 2/
I’ve come to fully understand over the last 3.5 months what Hubert Von Zeller once said: “Man must let himself be led by God, even when there seems to be neither sense nor sympathy in the lead given.” 3/
In all honesty, I don't really know why Bre was taken from us but I do know that God permits suffering and death for our sanctification and he gives us the grace to endure. 4/
The pain of Bre’s death will always be there for me, there really isn’t a day that goes by I don’t think about it - what happened, why it happened and what could have been. 5/
But, as we remember Christ’s death today, I understand that in this life our aim is not to maximize please and minimize suffering. Rather, our aim in life no matter what is to handle everything in such a way it becomes a matter for the love of God. 6/
Christ offers us a cross in this life, not comfort and the body must follow the head in all things. What Christ endures, we endure.
Seems simple enough but seeing parents bury their child first hand is incredibly brutal and an event that took a piece of me I don’t think I’ll ever get back. 8/
Crosses in life can be incredibly hard and painful but you have to truly understand that, as St. Therese of Lisieux once said, the cross is a marvelous intervention of Divine Mercy. What is a love that doesn’t prove itself? 8/
For the last 3.5 months, I have found myself in the middle of a treacherous storm with Christ asleep in my boat. I’d like to wake him but I won’t because I know two days from now they will roll away the tomb and find it empty. 10/10
*roll away the stone and find the tomb empty*
