Professional dissenters like @Fox_Claire, who built careers on unpopular opinions, now drone on about the absolute sanctity of The Will of The People. When their views are unpopular, they’re libertarians. The moment they get to 52%, they hug majoritarianism. Hypocrites, in short.
They infantilise an entire electorate, likening it to a tantrum-prone toddler, by warning of the violent offence it will take at any suggestion it may have been wrong. Having spent years berating majorities for taking offence at them just “saying it how it is”.
Problem is, historically, we KNOW majorities often get things horribly wrong. This is a matter of incontrovertible fact. Is it respectful for our elected representatives to keep shtum, when they see looming disaster, for fear of injuring people’s sensibilities? Is that democracy?

As we wake up to a young journalist having been tragically killed amidst riots and burning cars in Derry, I wonder if people like @toryboypierce, who mocked any warnings and dismissed them as "project fear", would care at the very least to acknowledge they got it horribly wrong.
My point was, of course, not that “Brexit caused this” - an inanely bad-faith reading of what I said -nor that the issue is not hugely complex. It was that some warned situation in NI was more fragile than appeared and need to be thought through only to be dismissed as alarmists.
That a fractious constitutional process, controlled by Westminster, all about the Irish border, which actively undermines the GFA would give succour to violent groups trying to undermine the GFA, is so BLINDINGLY ONVIOUS, if anyone still doesn’t get it, they don't want to get it.

The perpetual mistake is trusting that if "decent people" see the far right for what it is, they'll reject it. They know what it is. They long for it, certain it will only punish "others". This is the bit of history we always edit out: fascism usually rises with popular support.
We see progress as broadly monodirectional. It is not. The garden needs constant tending, because the weeds never rest.

But I've since heard from several Twitter users about a pattern of creepy behavior like this from him, so in conclusion:
I know some Twitter Arabs. And I will now take their advice to block you - like they did years ago - for this aggro creepy nonsense.

1/ For several years I have been using the phrase “security is cumulative” when briefing organizations on information security strategy. Here is how this comes about.
2/ Each step in the evolution of technology has prompted warnings about criminal abuse and unforeseen negative consequences. Many warnings go unheeded until incidents of abuse and negative consequences occur;
3/ at which point the problems are debated and measures to address them are drafted. Many of those measures are then ignored and the problem is talked down in some circles. While some measures may be implemented, it's too late or without enough resources to make a difference.

The above quote, I posted it on FB in February of 2012. I remember it distinctly, because it was the first time I'd ever posted something "serious" on FB

It was my "aha" moment to WRITE
It might sound ridiculous, but that quote, it got 12 likes I think, and I had a friend comment

"I really needed to hear this"

-it sounds minor i know, but it made me realize, WRITING can have an effect on people
After that, I started posting more longer posts, of anything that I thought was useful that I had learned/was learning

I was reteaching my own life lessons

And people responded.

Yes, it was FB, but it made me taking writing far more seriously
