Nothing can be more important than this for Theresa May today.

It is an historically significant moment for #peace & political leadership re: N. Ireland.

They're not only honouring Lyra thru word & action but confronting those who suckle violence.

For the PM to join the President & Taoiseach & all NI party ldrs today recognises this is a critical moment for NI.

Much more: it is unified support for those who refuse to be divided, intimidated or silenced.

I've now read the report top EU customs experts Pickett & Lux wrote for NI Dept for the Economy on this. Not easy reading ⚠️

Here’s a few highlights.

90% of NI businesses who export to EU trade across @BorderIrish.
94% of NI bus. exporting south are micro- or small enterprises
(Significant, for reasons we’ll return to)
A third of value NI exports to ROI is ‘food & live animals’
(We'll also return to this).

Second, a reminder of what trading across EU customs border means:
💳providing guarantees for customs debts,
💷payment of customs duties & import VAT
🎫applying for authorisations
🛃complying with customs formalities

Prompted by @CathalPMc, here's the latest @ARK_Info NI Life&Times survey results on political identity in N.Ireland.

TL;DR: The Tories aren't the only ones feeling less unionist.

As @CathalPMc notes, there's been a leap in 2018 in those describing themselves as Neither unionist nor nationalist.
This appears to come purely from people moving from unionist to 'neither' (Don't knows/Others are negligible).

NB This isn't the same as political preference.

This shift away from 'Unionist' & towards 'Neither' has happened across genders, altho' women are still significantly more likely to identify as Neither unionist nor nationalist.

This is reflected to some extent in voting support for Alliance & Green Party. [link to follow]

So #NoDeal holds No Fear for 3 of the remaining 6 Tory contenders? They assume such bravado gives leverage against the EU.

Perhaps now wd be a good time to check on how prepared UK is compared to the EU, which published its latest update this week.

There are only 3 possible outcomes: No Brexit; Deal; No Deal.
Little sign yet of a 2nd ref.
Deal comes thru UK ratifying #WithdrawalAgreement.

No Deal = if UK fails to do so
+ there is EITHER (i) no UK request for an extension
OR (ii) no unanimous EU27 approval for one.

#NoDeal requires legislation [unless it really is apocalypse they're after].

EU Commission’s tally: 18 out of the 19 legislative proposals needed to prepare for Brexit have been adopted (19th due this month).
+ 63 non-legislative acts adopted. Doesn't see a need for more.

Let us see the data of National Crime Records Bureau on farmer suicides.
NCRB data says

UPA-1 --> total farmer suicides were 85960 i.e 17192 per year
UPA-2 --> total farmer suicides 72785 i.e 14557 per year

NDA regime-
2014- 12360
2015- 12602
2016- 11370
Notice the fall in farmer suicides under NDA. How will @RahulGandhi and @INCIndia justify so high farmer suicides in their tenure?
Moreover, UPA gave a nationwide farm loan waiver in 2009. Did it stop farmer suicides? 3/n

The 90's gave rise to the internet and mobile phones.

The rest is history.

Tutorial on how to make a map using QGIS. I'll turn @SenhorRaposa's 2000 Vermont town data into a map showing by how much Gore outran Senator Jeffords (or vice versa) in every town.
Step 1: Download QGIS for your computer, which is available here:

You'll also need some of Census' Tiger/Line County and County Sub shapefiles. The main download page for those is here:

I can't find a 2017 County file by state, so we'll use the 2009 verison here:
