When a crisis occurs and people circle up in prayer, we need not even wonder if it matters. There’s simply nothing we humans could do in response to crisis that matters more. I want to throw out a couple of suggestions not because I’m an expert but because I’m old. :) Seen a lot.
*If you’re in Christ, you have a Father in heaven whose power and love exceed all measure. The good thing about a crisis is that you don’t sit around and deliberate over whether or not God still works miracles. You’re too desperate. You cry out to God who can do utterly anything.
*This same God already knows our measures of faith & how frail & fragile a state your faith may be in & why. Like the dad of the suffering child in Mark 9:24, cry out to Jesus, “Help my unbelief!” & like the disciples in Luke 17:5, “Increase our faith!” Faith is still essential.
*Let each in this circle of prayer bring the full measure of what he/she has. Some will come armed with much strength & powerful words. Others with less strength, simpler words. Others will come with a few words between sobs. Others, only sobs or groans. All matter! The Spirit...
...searches the deep things & intercedes according to the will of God. (Rom8:26-27)
*This one is really important: in a longer term crisis where prayer is crucial but you are running out of steam ROLL THE BURDEN ONTO SCRIPTURE. Go to the Gospel & tell Jesus what He has done..
“Jesus, right here you did this & there you did that & you said you’d do this and you said you’d do that.” Get what I’m saying? Bring it to Him! He honors that we’re going to His words. Go to the psalms & pray them. Honest, earnest prayers in the powerful name of Jesus are heard.
Our God is sovereign. He is also good. He cannot do evil. He can’t love less because He IS love. He’d have to be less God to love less. Prayer does not make God do things but God indeed says that often we have not because we ask not. He honors our prayers. They matter. We matter.
Don’t give up, sisters & brothers. Keep praying. Wrestle. Bring what you have. And every little indication that you see of God at work, stop right then & thank Him. It will fuel you for the long haul. “Continue steadfastly in prayer being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” Col4:2
One day we’ll be Home and all this suffering will be over. Until then, brothers & sisters, we pray. Ours is the God who spoke the universe into existence, who gave his Son for us & raised Him from the dead. The One who exercises that exact same resurrection power on our behalf.
I love y’all. Hang in there.
