Daily readings out of both Deuteronomy & Romans right now, a chapter each. (Talk about a juxtaposition!) Deut has me reflecting on a parallel with our walk of faith. Want to say something to you who are younger. It all turned out to be woefully harder than I thought it would be->
I somehow had it in my young mind that if I was on the right track to where God wanted me, the road would be reasonably navigable & the destination (i.e. where I’d serve) might be a bit challenging but mostly pleasant. Welcoming. Always a blessing.I don’t know what I was smoking.
In a nutshell, God’s will = smooth. Not God’s will = rough. If you have that anywhere in your young head, dump it post haste. That is not remotely what Jesus told us to expect from our journeys. One look at the 10th chapters of Matthew & Luke & you’ll see a whole different story.
If you follow Jesus, you’ll often follow Him right into trouble. The journey’s treacherous. The wilderness vast. The serpents and scorpions breed endlessly. Both the route & the destination will nearly kill you. And yet there’s the wonder, the mystery, the beauty,

the PRESENCE.
So, yeah, it’s all been so much harder than I thought it would be but Jesus has been so much greater than I imagined He’d be. He’s right there. He knows what it’ll take. He knows that if your path’s not ferocious, you’ll never develop the muscle to persist where He’s placing you.
It’s a fight from beginning to end. But, it’s a good fight. It’s a beautiful fight.

Stay with it. You’re gonna be alright.
