Jeremy Corbyn did attend the state banquet when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited in 2015
Struggling to think of another example where the leader of the opposition boycotted a state visit banquet. Lib Dems have before - as has Prince Charles.
I'm told Jeremy Corbyn has indeed missed state banquets before for various reasons - but this is first time it's a very public decision to boycott
