This data is from 2006, so not sure how things have changed since then....but the numbers on History seem about right to me (and contest what conservative anti-academic pundits would say about us). 10% atheists, 29% devout believers, 60% between those poles.
I think you'd be hard pressed to find an American History PhD who evinces blanket scorn for people of faith. Anyone who's read a book about abolition or the civil rights movement or the women's rights movement or Native American history knows how dumb such a position would be.
To the extent that religious students are made uncomfortable in their history classes, it's probably caused by the ecumenical presumption that no single religious tradition has a monopoly on truth. That's not anti-religious, it's tolerance and respect for all faiths.
