Today we filed suit on behalf of the parents of four African American & Latino girls who were illegally strip-searched by school officials at their middle school in Binghamton, NY.
The harm our clients suffered reminds me of Safford United Schl Dist. v Redding, the 2009 case in which Justice Ginsburg at oral argument firmly chided her colleagues abt what it means to a 13 yr old girl to be strip-searched at school. nytimes.com/2009/06/26/us/@NotoriousRBG
Why did the principal at the East Middle School in Binghamton subject these 4 African American and Latina girls to a strip search? The 12 year-old girls were "giggling" and seemed "hyper." We're suing. READ our complaint naacpldf.org/wp-content/upl…
After the strip search (which turned up no drugs or contraband), one of the girls was given in-school suspension with no explanation. All were sent to an alternative school for weeks, where there was minimal instruction & instead they were left to watch YouTube most of the day.
