Whatever you think of Rod Rosenstein’s service - and you’d have plenty of evidence support both a good or a grim view - his resignation letter is a perfect self-parody.
Trying to please all sides. Obsequious. Self-deluded, pretentious, and full of ridiculous falsehoods.
3/ My frustration with Rosenstein is that it bursts the false hope we had that he was staying inside to defend the rule of law from Sessions/Whitaker/Barr. He was playing along temporarily.
But the resignation was his final chance to stop playing and condemn Trump and Barr.
Nope.
4/ Many tried to give Rod the benefit of the doubt (including me). His participation in firing Comey was redeemed by appointing Mueller. But his bizarre sycophancy? His refusal to recuse on obstruction? Etc.
Rod’s resignation letter confirms that he was no hero behind the scene.
5/ History will judge Rosenstein’s complicity with Barr on defending Trump and misleading the public. Rosenstein’s letter concludes that chapter decisively.
Did Rosenstein play an unprofessional role behind the scenes?
His legal conclusions of no obstruction were convenient.
6/ Rod participated in obstructive firing Comey. He didn’t recuse. And conveniently found no obstruction.
I’m *not* saying Rod should be indicted. I’m saying he was a direct witness to Trump’s “corrupt intent” in firing Comey and should be subpoenaed.

7/ Rosenstein’s letter thanks Trump for “the courtesy and humor you often display in our personal conversations.”
Remember the courtesy and humor when Trump retweeted Rod behind bars, with accusations of treason?
Good times.
