Did something take over the universities, which are seminaries of the secular world, in recent years?

The ridicule directed at "thoughts" and "prayers" is a hangover of 20th century materialism. The 21st century has taught us the vital importance of information, aka software. Once a culture's software has been corrupted it risks going down no matter how intact the hardware.

The NYT was particularly vulnerable to corruption because it regarded itself, naturally enough, as beyond bigotry, its staff inoculated against real error by education, urbanity and sheer intelligence. They didn't even notice how they gradually fell to a "thought".

Paradoxically the Western intellectual elite were disarmed by their inability to appreciate the real power of "thoughts". They handled it without gloves, careless of its effects. They forgot what people once knew: the keys to your mind are your most precious possession.

Then one day quite without being aware of it, they were publishing Nazi cartoons, never knowing how it happened. 'Tis withcraft. Well maybe it is.

There's nothing out there in the dark.
