NEW via @mattzap: Mueller expressed his concerns that Barr's depiction of his findings failed to capture ‘context, nature, and substance’ of the investigation in a letter to Barr and then a phone call during which Mueller pressed Barr to release executive summaries of his report.

A day after Mueller sent the letter to Barr, they spoke by phone for about 15 minutes and Mueller said he was concerned that news coverage of the obstruction investigation was misguided and creating public misunderstandings about the office’s work.

Justice Department officials were taken aback by the tone of Mueller’s letter and it came as a surprise to them that he had such concerns. Until they received the letter, they believed Mueller was in agreement with Barr [no one else believed that].

Per @maddow: Peter Carr says Robert Mueller will be concluding his work at DOJ in the coming days [after which Mueller will be free to testify without being constrained by Barr and the Trump DOJ].
Chuck Rosenberg: Mueller must have been pretty upset. At DOJ, we always disagree...but we don't always write letters. We call that "going to paper." When you want to make a record for the history books, you write a letter to paper the trail.
