Now, with @Uber pocketing the benefits, can @townofinnisfil even begin to transition to functioning public transit system that the community deserves?
It's hard to say no to ride-hailing services in the first place when you don't have the numbers or interest to back up consistent transit.
Especially when the services rely on changing long-held community habits.
We had one bus that ran four times a day: twice in the morning and twice in the evening. Sometimes I was the only one on the bus.
They cancelled it.
It assumed we all would use the bus to commute to the Go station for work. Didn't go to neighbouring towns & cities, didn't operate during the day, didn't drop people off closer to their homes.
Didn't serve the community.
I get why the ride-hailing solution was alluring.
As flawed as Uber is, it's presence meant something. It's a symbol. Our communities want innovation and investment, too.
Time to rip off that band-aid and develop a true transit system – the one @townofinnisfil deserves.
