Thread on why we need more sociologists in the debate on how we're going to finance higher education and help students regain reasonable access to college.
I mean, economists are fine and have role in the free college debates, but it's the sociologists who can unearth the "why's" underneath what's happening and help us understand the systemic mechanisms that are causing problems who are going to help us find a path out.
Tell me which books tell us more about what's ails post-secondary edu from a systemic perspective more than @tressiemcphd's Lower Ed and @saragoldrickrab's Paying the Price. Both sociologists. And the other book we should be reading, The Great Mistake by @cnewf? He's an Eng prof.
How about another? The New Education by @CathyNDavidson another English professor. Here's where I compared and contrasted it to a book by one of them there economists. chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/boo…
