I'm calling it. @OwenJones84 is now the Guardians top enabler of Brexit, he may as well be an outright supporter of Farage. This article here is shameful (1) theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
I mean from the headline onwards @OwenJones84 is speaking inflammatory nonsense. Firstly, there is no such thing as an 'ultra-remainer'. You aren't 'ultra' anything for favouring the status quo. Remain isn't extremism, in any sense. (2)
He then goes on to reiterate how great the NEC position is - they'll push for a general election (which doesn't help Remain), their own version of Brexit (Unicorns), and only then if that fails a general election - which comes when, precisely? Wasn't time. Isn't time. (3)
The last-chance saloon was left behind months ago. There is no jobs-first brexit, there is no all the same benefits brexit. There are only shades of needless harm. (4)
He then argues that because Labour whipped its MPs to invote A50 and then campaigned for Brexit and got the same vote share as Blair - there's so much wrong with this claim its hard to know where to start. (5)
...to begin with, he knows full well Labour aimed at constructive ambiguity in that election and played Leave and Remain off, leaving many voters adamant that the party really represented Remain infacts.org/labours-eu-amb…
...and he knows that in that election we finally saw Britain revert back to a two-party system - Labour did indeed get a vote share similar to Blair, but in a system with two rather than three major national parties splitting the vote that was unremarkable (8)
...and indeed their vote share was utterly typical of what a second party got in Britain whenever we had a two party system. As one would expect of a losing party. (9)
...this lurch ever further in to Leave that we've seen from Labour while contunuing with the same unworkable fudge is entirely down to Corbyn, who was, is and has always been an opponent of EU membership. Jones... Are you for real? Do you really believe this nonsense? (10)
