ILL FATE

Lawyer
>Mr Deji, if you're found guilty I'm not sure of what the judge's verdict will be, but its either you'll be away for life or it'll be death by hanging.

MrDeji(Scared)
>Ah! How did I get myself into this whole trouble!

A THREAD.

#mblacktrib3fridaystories
>The economic downturn in the country affected everyone, millions of citizens lost their jobs even those with the most secured employments. The prices of goods skyrocked and more poor citizens were made in just a few years.
Families that managed their previously gained income to survive were relegated to the lowest class any society could have, and some even lost their families.
>This is was the pattern of MrDeji who lost everything to the recession. From feeding his wife and three children thrice a day, it collapsed to either once or twice and after his job left him, he watched his entire family starve on some days.
On some other days, he'd hustle any kind of job just so his family could eat. There were days he made less than #500 and he just had to give it to his family to eat while he starved in love.
MrsDeji
>Daddy falilat, we need to talk!

MrDeji
>I hope there's no serious problem 'cause you're looking so solemn.
MrsDeji
>Ewo baba falilat, drop all these your unprofitable oyinbo, it isn't bringing food to the table nor is it sending our kids to school. See us! No good clothes, we're also about to lose our small shelter because I'm sure you can't pay the next rent
>If you don't get a good job soon, I'll carry my children to my village oh. Watching them suffer, starve and not going to school is enough for me to bear, I won't watch them sleep on the streets of Lagos. ( She stands up in vexation and storms out of their sitting room).
MrDeji (Thoughts)
> Why is life this way God! I'm facing pressure outside and the reason why I'm facing that pressure is giving me pressure. Sha provide me with a good job soon, I don't want to lose this family. I'll do anything!!!
>Tomiwa the first son walks into the sitting room with a grumpy face..

Tomiwa
>Dad, jamb form is out.

MrDeji
>Okay.
Tomiwa
>Is that all you'll say dad? I want to get the form na (almost sobbing) see all my mates are either in their third year or final year in school and I'm still here.

MrDeji (Sighs)
>Let me get back today, I have one small job that I can do.
[Day, everywhere in Lagos]
>If MrDeji was among the exodus of the Isrealites, he wouldn't have uttered a single complaint. He walked the entire lagos, hopped on buses when he could, and so many at times, the bus driver or conductor always yelled him down.
He arrives at a big office complex all sweaty and very dirty that has a sign of employment outside its gate. They were in need of a driver that could resume immediately.
His eyes popped at the offer, immediately he bought #10 pure water from the mallam nearby and used it to wash his face and legs.
>He was granted an interview immediately but not after so many eyes stared at his rough and dirty clothes and some even squeezed their nose tight.

Employer
>You came at the right time Mr... (MrDeji hurriedly replied with his name).
>I would need to see your driver's license and any other valid identification card you have with you.
(MrDeji hands over his driver's license and voter's card to him, at this point MrDeji was filled with joy and was already thinking of how he'd even request an upfront payment of his January salary)
Employer
>We would need to test your driving skills, and if you're okay with that, it'll be today. The complex compound is big enough for that. And for your salary, we pay every two weeks and that'll be 35k for 2 weeks and 70k per month.
When coming tomorrow, please come along with your CV.

>MrDeji's last job paid 40k per month and this one was an increase of 30k. He breathing changed, the excitement couldn't hide itself from his face and as he spoke, his voice began to shake and his words clustered together.
His mind wondered for a little bit, "my last company is far bigger than this one and I'm not even sure what these people here are dealing, anyways they'll pay"

MrDeji
>Yes, the training, I can. I'll bring the CV now, sorry tomorrow.

Employer
>See you tomorrow then.
>MrDeji rushes home and tells his family the good news. That night was the best night they've had in a very long time; his wife even lost her appetite as she frantically...
... searched for his eat CV and folded the shirt and trouser he'd be wearing to work the next day, and placed both under the pillow as IKEDC hasn't given them power for almost 2 weeks now.
[Night, Hotel]

Politician
>Uou must be joking! You aren't a small girl now, you can not possibly make this kind of stupid mistake. You vividly know I have a wife and children at home, and this kind of scandal if it gets to the press might break my home and destroy my career
Side Chic
>I remember telling you to use condom but you refused, insisting on skin to skin, now that the result is out, you want me to take all the blame. See oh, I've said it before, I'm not a murderer; this child, I'm keeping it.
If you refuse to accept responsibility, I'll go to your house and the press at the same time.

Politician
>This girl, are you trying to force my hand? I'm warning you. Don't bite more than your tiny teeth can chew oh. You'll abort this one! Period!
>He drops two bundles of 1000 naira notes on the bed and heads for the exit but she goes after him immediately with the money and forces it back into his agbada pocket, pushes him out of her way and heads outside.
Politician (thoughts)
>Well, if you don't want to abort the child, I'll do the honors of aborting the both of you. But how now? my special hit man is still in prison. I'll figure out a way sha.
[Morning, Office Complex]
>MrDeji was the first person to get to the office the following day, after the security personnels. He waited from 6:40 am to 10:55 am before he was allowed into the HR office.
This time, he was looking clean and neatly dressed, his wife had dug out her cologne that morning, almost emptying its content on her husband. The receptionist looked at him with a smile and said "you smell nice"
>As he about entering the office, the HR manager met him at the threshold of his office door and asked him to walk with him until they were both outside.

Employer
>MrDeji right?

MrDeji (Excited)
>Yes
Employer
> The CEO came yesterday with a driver and there was nothing I could do. The job is gone. I'm sorry.

>MrDeji tried saying something but it was if his throat was tied and he was choking. His hopes had gotten to space and in a second, it came back down to hit the...
ground before him. He was confused and heavy, his legs couldn't take another step and his head would not stop thinking about the happiness that was flowing through the veins of his family back home and how he'd have to turn it upside down.
>He turned his back finally, dragging his feet towards the gate and stepped outside. He couldn't go home yet, he had no idea how he was going to narrate what just happened to his hopeful so he just went to sit with the mallam outside the complex gates.
He got lost in thoughts for hours that he didn't know when it was sunset.

MrDeji
>Aboki, goodnight. Thank you for the water and biscuit, God bless you.

Aboki
>Na nothing oga. I see say I don taya so I just think say you o need am. Goodnight Oga.
>MrDeji walks away and takes a bus from lagos Island down to Agege.
He highlights at his junction and starts walking slowly to his house when he sees one of the popular politicians in that area, he recognizes the man in his white shorts and black t-shirt. Immediately, he thought to himself "should I walk up to this man, maybe he can be of help oh
MrDeji
>Good evening Sir, my name is Adedeji Oladeji. (He continued talking and following as the man walked away) Please sir, I'm out of a job and I have a family to feed, please sir anything, I'll do. I'm a qualified driver, and if there's no driving job, I can take anything!!
Politician (Stops and turns around)
>ehn ehn? You'll do anything? Like anything oh.

MrDeji (Eyes popping with renewed hope)
>Yes sir, yes sir.

Politician
>Okay, walk with me then. I have the perfect job for you. I hope you're trustworthy though.
MrDeji
>You can call me trustworthy, I'm very reliable sir.
>They both approach a jeep parked at the end of the road with a driver who hurriedly came down from the vehicle to open the back door. Both men stepped into the vehicle and the politician repeated himself.
Politician
> Are you certain you can do anything? I wouldn't want to offer you a job that'll be above your  competent level.

MrDeji
>Sir, add all round competency to my name.
Politician
>Alright, in that case, take this envelope. The money inside is part payment for the job you'll do for me, you'll get the rest when you're done. Your job description is inside the envelope too.
> at this point, MrDeji's enthusiasm dropped. His eyes locked with the politician while holding the envelope. He looks inside it after getting a mod from the politician and his eyes bulges immediately.
MrDeji
>This is a gun!! What exactly do you want me to do for you?

Politician
>To execute your new job. That's all.

MrDeji
>My new job? No No Nooo, I'm not hurting anyone for money. (He tried existing the jeep but it's already locked)
Politician.
>Remember that you have a family to feed, at least that should make you take a look at the money. Besides, you won't be hurting anyone.
>MrDeji's heartbeat rapidly increases again as he takes another look inside the brown envelope in his hands. He saw 5 bunches of #1000 notes. He pulls out the photo of the girl, now holding the gun.
Politician
you really don't have to do anything, the job is simple. Go to that address, you'd find this exact lady, threaten her. Say these exact words "if you do not abort the child you're carrying, by tomorrow she'd be dead with the child" (He gives him another envelope 4 her)
>When you're done, come to this exact location by 7am tomorrow and you'd get your balance.

MrDeji
>Just that?

Politician
>Yes, just that.

>The jeep unlocks and MrDeji steps out of the vehicle
Politician
>Drive, I need to execute the main plan now. That girl must die tonight, she knows too much and is already turning into a liability.

Driver
>But you asked him not to harm her?

Politician
> Yes, I did. The police would need a suspect.
>One hour later, MrDeji arrives at the particular address that was given to him. With fear and trembling, he knocked on the door and immediately it was opened, forced himself inside and locked the door behind him.
>She was about yelling at him when he pulled out the gun from his back pocket and pointed it at her, repeating the exact words that the politician asked him to tell her.  She got very scared and his hands were also shaking.
>While still trying to finish his words with the gun pointed at her, the entire neighborhood heard a deafening sound and what MrDeji saw next was her blood on his face. She was laying on the ground in the pool of her blood
>He was confused; he took a look at the mouth of the gun and wondered if he had pulled the trigger mistakenly but was certain he didn't. He looked at the window of her room and saw in a distance the politician's jeep driving away.
>In his confusion, he heard the sound of the police sirens wailing and immediately went for the door but it was jammed. He began a frantic search for the keys but heard a loud knock on the door still holding the gun in his hands...
