/10 Bradley Mason, a vocal evangelical Social Justice (ESJ) proponent, is here referring to @D_B_Harrison . In a recent tweet thread (not this one, pictured in next) he said that all of us who signed the Statement on Social Justice and the Gospel (SJ&G) were using the Gospel to
/10 defend white supremacy. Later in the thread he backed off of that a bit, but his words speak for themselves. Included in his list is Darrell Harrison whom he refers to as an "assimilationist." It is one thing to disagree with someone's position. It is entirely another to
/10 disparage a brother's work as "reprehensible" and also disparaging his character and integrity. By saying Darrell is "just scratching itching ears, but now for a living," he is suggesting that Darrell is merely doing other people's bidding and doing it for money.
/10 Mason will likely deny this was his intent. But it is the pattern of ESJs to cast aspersions & then deny doing so. For example, in a recent exchange with Tom Buck, Mason said that the signers of SJ&G "aren't at all anti-racists." He won't directly call us racists, but his
/10 words are a distinction without a real difference. Scripture teaches that what a man approves (in our case, racism and/or white supremacy apparently) by that he is condemned (Rom. 14:22). Darrell's work warning of the ESJ movement he began long before there was any hint
/10 of him working for GTY. His current work against the ESJ movement he does on his own time and does it because he is burdened by the needless division it is causing in the body of Christ - not because he is making money off this supposed "cottage industry." In fact, like
/10 the rest of us as initial signers (3 of whom are black), his stand has cost him. We have profited nothing but the value of a clear conscience and whatever fruit God graciously chooses to bring forth from our efforts. Mason has disparaged both Darrell's work and his character
/10 Note that he does not care that Darrell's stand against the ESJ movement "is coming from a black dude." Darrell has escaped the ESJ plantation. It is tragically ironic that those who claim to decry racism the most vociferously are themselves the most quick to cast
/10 vile aspersions. The Gospel of Jesus Christ breaks down every superficial barrier whether it be economic status, language, culture, or melanin level (Eph. 2:11-22). This is the power and beauty of the Gospel and it is this power and beauty that the ESJ movement, whether
/10 wittingly or unwittingly, is severely damaging. And it is for this reason that I, Darrell Harrison, all the initial signatories of the SJ&G and over 10,000 others who have signed, stand against it.
