As people begin to realize that conventions are a good place to transmit diseases (con crud has been a thing literally forever, this year is the first time I've seen folks saying "hey, maybe...we should vaccinate?"), a few additions:
* The flu shot is a vaccine. "But I got the flu shot once and I felt bad after!" You know what will make you feel way, way worse? THE FLU. The actual flu is like being body-slammed by your own bones. Your HAIR will hurt. Get the shot (unless immunocompromised or unable).
* Don't touch people without permission. Even guests. Even creators. Even celebrities. I've started trying to avoid handshakes, or trying to use hand sanitizer right after, and some people have been offended. I'm not saying YOU, SPECIFIC FAN, ARE DIRTY.
I'm saying "fomite transmission is real and diseases are invisible." I'm saying "I have no idea where your hands have been." I'm saying "maybe you touched your genitals and the sink was broken." ASK. EVERYONE gets to say no. Consent is a shared concept.
* Coughs and sneezes spread diseases. Maybe you know that you're coughing because you just inhaled a bug. I don't. Cover your mouth any time you're getting ready to expel air through an uncontrolled muscular contraction.
* Wash your hands. As many times a day as the opportunity presents itself. Ideally, with soap and hot water, for the duration of one trip through "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." Or longer! You do you, you sink-showering siren.
* If you think there is even the slightest chance you're contracted something before the start of the show, don't attend the show. I know, I know, FOMO is very real, but I promise you, one year where you're not becoming Plaguepants McGee is not going to be the end of the world.
* Don't lick stuff that isn't food or a consensual sex partner.
* Showers.
