I’m not going to mention any names bc I’m honestly not stirring controversy here, but I try to stay abreast of my community’s cultures & subcultures, and that includes hip hop. So last night I’m watching a podcast & gentrification comes up, then it goes left
1.) The white guy on the podcast seemed more informed & angered about systemic racism than the main host, who is Black. That was a shocker. The white guy was like, “Blacks don’t have enough wealth to gentrify!” And the Black host kept pushing back. Weird.
2.) Then the other Black co-host began to express some disagreement as well, to which the main Black host responded, “YALL SOUND HOPELESS!” Immediate facepalm 🤦🏽♀️, because calling some1 hopeless is not now, and has never been, a counter argument: it means u don’t have an argument
3) Near the end of the convo, the answer offered by the main host to increase Black wealth was a) Blacks have always had it harder so try harder & b) make money using ur phone or some other nonsense WTF?!! 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
4) Then the main Black host says “They can’t stop us!” At this point my head is swimming. The podcast is available on 2 white owned platforms. They can pull the plug whenever they decide. Ur here because capital sees value in u. They can end that at any moment.
5) @tonetalks is correct when he says we have 2 many crumb snatchers who view themselves as big game hunters. Whites have nearly all the wealth in America, and we know they can hold us down systemically and thru institutional oppression because they have been for generations 
I remember Donald Glover saying something similar, that now kids can just create with their phones. That’s true. And some may even get the attention of white capital, and it’s white capital, with all of its distribution networks, that will “make” a hit as well
This sort of rhetoric not only de-politicizes #ADOS, but it discourages white would-be allies from working on our behalf. What’s the point of reparations or a Black Agenda if we can all just make money using our phones? Let’s close the racial wealth gap with our phones 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
