First, a little background: At the dawn of the 16th century, in the Holy Roman Empire (Germany & Austria) the noble 'middle class’ of knights were at loggerheads with the Prince-Electors of various regions , who were consolidating power. /2
These Prince Electors, befitting their importance as those who selected the Holy Roman Emperor, were raising their own armies, filling them with mercenaries who used cannon and crude firearms. The knightly class were being slowly squeezed out by these power players. /3

For the purposes of this thread, I'm taking 'badass’ to mean brave, uncompromising, daring and generally a very distinct, recognisable figure. /2
1. She was born to war - Æthelflæd was born in some time around 870, after the 'Vikings’ had invaded England & threatened to overwhelm the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. Dad was Alfred the Great, so she knew very well what was at stake for Wessex & the other surviving Saxon kingdoms. /3.

I've had a lot of jobs in my time. One really enjoyable one was writing about boutique hotels for a company called @ChicRetreat. When things were quiet, I'd research the stories of older hotels, ask some questions. I'd always come across some really fascinating stuff… /1
Hotel Villa Carlotta (@HVillaCarlotta) in Taormina, Sicily is relatively modern, but when owners were looking for a place to put a bar, well, why not the ancient Roman catacombs found during construction? No really, those are the niches for bodies. /2

Phillip the Arab held the title of Augustus (AKA Roman Emperor) for about 5 years from 244 to 249 AD. This was smack in the middle of a period known as the "Crisis of the Third Century." Rome was deeply divided, faced secessionist threats, had repeated coups, and many invasions.

Let’s do a little after-action report: the @afainatl had a pretty clear victory. No right-wingers showed up for “#RockStoneMountain” today.

Antifa had a victory march, and left-wing militia groups guarded the outside in case of ambush. None occurred.

No arrests. No violence.
With Stone Mountain closed today, #Antifa stood outside the visitor center and set fire to a KKK effigy.

@socialistdogmom lit her cigarette on the makeshift campfire.

The police basically did nothing the entire day, but came with a fire hydrant once antifa was done with this.
Plenty of antifa were masked up, which is an arrestable offense in Georgia.

Police gave them room to march without obstruction.

I don’t like to speculate, but antifa being heavily armed may have been in their favor.

No need to wade into armed opponents for a petty mask charge.

It has been raining for over two hours now. I was ready for work but the rain wasn't letting up anytime soon.
My street was already flooded with water and I just watched as the rain fell from my window.
I had gotten a new job as a representative of a marketing firm and I really needed to impress my boss.
He hired me on a trial basis, I wasn't qualified and my resume wasn't exactly perfect but he hired me anyway and I really wanted to prove myself to him.

Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether
