Hi bro, I appreciate your impassioned response.

I’ll try to address the points you took the time to raise.
1. I agree that Nigeria has no state religion. The Dubai example was followed by examples from the UK, and Israel.

The foundation laid was to show that most societies - secular & non-secular - have made accommodations for Islam and at Islamic arbitration (if not justice).
2. Your example of a 2017 stabbing during Ramadan proves only that there are violent extremists in Islam. Just as there are violent extremists in other religions.

Crucially, it misses the mark wrt the discussion about Hisbah stating they want to police the fasting of Muslims.
3. How legal is Hisbah? I have no clue. Is it an integral part of Sharia law enforcement or something created by the government?

I’ve had my concerns for a while. This is my tweet from 2016, asking if a strange directive was legal.

But I’m neither a Muslim nor a Sharia expert.
3b. What I do expect is that if it is an extralegal agency, that its existence be challenged in a court of law either by the FG or by citizens it tries to exercise power over.
4. Sharia is a legal system, like customary or ‘Western’ law. You can’t quite compare it to genital mutilation.

On the point of IPOB, I agree 100%. I believe the right to self-determination is as fundamental as the right to religion, which is why I’d support a Biafran referendum
5. On the criminalization of eating during Ramadan by Hisbah, it must be pointed out that they were referring ONLY to Muslims. That was clearly stated in the article.

Whether this is an encroachment on the rights of Muslims is something perhaps they alone can determine.
6. I appreciate your concerns about the abuses minorities living in the North might suffer. The good thing about this conversation is that at least everyone is in agreement that Sharia law ONLY applies to Muslims, and Hisbah (legal or not) has no jurisdiction over non-Muslims.
7. People are hypocrites. Religion sadly does not erase this. What I would love to see a return to is Christians breaking fast with Muslims and Muslims celebrating Easter with Christians.

An agenda will always exist as long as bad people seek power. Let good people seek peace./
