I talked to a few notable people who signed the letter saying Trump would have been charged w/ obstruction, but for his office, including...
A former close friend & colleague of Rudy Giuliani
A lawyer for David Pecker of AMI
A lawyer in Ken Starr's office

Jeffrey Harris, who was a friend to Rudy Giuliani & worked for him at Justice, on his reaction to Mueller report: "I would have clearly prosecuted that person or persons, and I can tell you, when Rudy was a prosecutor, he would’ve done the same thing." washingtonpost.com/world/national…
Elkan Abramowitz, who represents David Pecker, told me Barr's characterization of Mueller report was "so unbelievably misleading that I thought a clear statement of what the report said was in order.” Added his signing had nothing to do with Pecker. washingtonpost.com/world/national…
Paul Rosenzweig, who served under independent counsel Ken Starr & believes Bill Clinton should have been impeached/removed: “I think it’s important to say that Trump’s conduct violated criminal law, and that if he were another person, he’d be prosecuted.” washingtonpost.com/world/national…
Donald Ayer, a deputy AG in the HW Bush administration: "We just felt a need to tell the American people from the perspective of unbiased observers who at different times in our lives have done this for a living that there really is a case here." washingtonpost.com/world/national…
Notably, none of these people said their goal was to spark impeachment proceedings. Rather, they hope their views are noticed by the public (including voters in 2020.) washingtonpost.com/world/national…
Important note. Rudy Giuliani has now responded to this story, esp. the comment about him from Jeffrey Harris. His response below. washingtonpost.com/world/national…
A little more- Giuliani said he has “great affection” for Harris, but his former colleague was ignoring critical aspects of Mueller’s report. For example, he said, Mueller’s assertion that he could not “exonerate” Trump was “a perversion of the 2,000 year old burden in any case.”
