I've been writing and campaigning on working class lads being the bottom of education for years. I've spoken, eyeball to eyeball with MPs on the matter. Started charities. Made rousing speeches in Parliament. Nothing's happened. It's heartbreaking; this abandonment >>
I've got no idea where my current political journey is taking me. But I'd love to use any chance I get to try and make a difference for these lads: lads like I was, who seem to have been thrown in the dustbin by our current MPs. This must change
Of course, it's not just lads: it's the women in their lives, too. Mums, sisters, partners, friends. Oppressed social mobility affects all of society. We must breathe new hope into the forgotten heartlands of the UK. Right now, we're failing a generation
What haunts me is the question: would I have made it, if I'd been born today? I'm not sure I would. I was a clown, from a broken family, a tough mining community. But teachers showed faith: strong role models so sadly lacking today. We need more of this now
And I'm crying on the train! It's been a long week. F***'s sake, they deserve chance. A way out. Sometimes, the will to live. I've got a ton of ideas on this. My mum taught the toughest kids in Notts her entire career. She always told me: "you just need to offer these kids hope"
