I'm so old that I remember economists telling us efficiencies, trade and automation were good for all of us because it frees up resources for everyone to move up the ladder, get better ages and much more free time. /1
What happened instead was a sliver of the population had the wealth and power to use those to force wages down, and instead of investing to improve the economy and standard of living they pocketed much of those gains for themselves. /2
If We the People had control of our government and economy we could implement policies that actually DO let us share the economic gains, while sending menial work to places that need the jobs - allowing them to also climb the ladder. /3
