/ Great work, as always, by @tweetermeyer (Ed Niedermeyer) in @thedrive. The latest: an article explaining why $TSLA screens are failing so regularly. Link at the end of this short thread.
/ Years ago, when sourcing screens for the $TSLA Models S & X, Elon Musk was, as always, just so much smarter than everyone else. He found a cheaper way to do it. @valleyhack (Ashlee Vance) wrote about it in his indispensable biography:
/ As Niedermeyer details, Musk selected a screen significantly inferior in quality to that any other automaker would use. Inevitably, problems resulted. Musk sought a cheap fix. I love this detail about "cabin overheat protection," so typical of the $TSLA ethos:
/ As I noted, the @valleyhack Musk biography is indispensable. Deeply researched & insightful. Alas, Vance uncritically swallowed so many Musk tales about how the Great Disruptor knew better, both at $TSLA & SpaceX, including the "robust" screen story cited earlier.
/ And, while buying the Musk baloney, Vance's book took some gratuitous pot shots at, of all people, Ed Niedermeyer. Bronx cheer for you, Ashlee. One hopes that if you revised the Musk bio today, you would not have such stars in your eyes.
/ Here's that great @Tweetermeyer piece. The Drive continues to do splendid work. thedrive.com/tech/27989/tes…
@Tweetermeyer 7/ How could I forget to mention that @Tweetermeyer has his own book about $TSLA soon to be published? I've pre-ordered it, and can't wait to read it. amazon.com/dp/B07L5SF2GF/…
