I spoke to various Iranian political activists over the past few days. All of them are critical of the government, have been working towards a freer and more democratic Iran, and have paid high prices for their activism - from prison to forced migration and exile.

SANCTIONS
They all oppose economic sanctions on Iran. Current US sanctions are very broad and target the entire Iranian economy. Their main victims are ordinary Iranians, especially working and middle classes. A weak economy also hurts the civil society and rights movements.
GOVERNMENT
They are all critical of the Iranian government. They want to see fundamental changes in political, economic, and social policies. More tolerant political sphere, freer media, more political participation in decision making, more social freedoms for various lifestyles.
WAR
They all oppose war and military conflict and see it as an attack on the entire nation, not just the government. They don’t want to see Iran become like Iraq or Afghanistan. They say a military conflict will be a disaster for both nations, Iranians and Americans.
DIPLOMACY
They all support diplomacy and peaceful solutions to conflict. They supported the nuclear deal and want Iran to engage better and more with the world, including the West. Some of them Iran should negotiate with Trump, some think Trump is a bully and there is no point.
