Just talked to my 98-year-old grandpa about Trump's trade war with China. He said he remembers when a local hot dog vender would go down to the Port of Newark and buy up cheap Chinese-made plastic toys, then bring them back to the Arena my grandpa ran and sell them at big profit
My grandpa's comment on Joe Biden: "He's a real stiff"
By the way, I think the anecdote about the hot dog guy must've been from sometime in the 1970s or 80s. My grandpa said one of the most popular toys were these plastic harpoon things that kids bought in droves when the circus came to the Arena. Guy made a killing
The guy, Phil, was able to buy a large house in Glen Ridge, NJ (wealthy area) based on earning a living from selling hot dogs and cheap plastic toys he managed to wrangle in bulk from shippers at the Port. Hard to imagine how that could be possible today

James Baker, the former FBI official currently on a media tour, gets very offended when anyone suggests that he was part of an attempted "coup." Of course that's not how these people would characterize their actions. But in totality, what they did 100% amounted to a "soft coup"
If the most powerful law enforcement and intelligence officials in the country get together to surveil and entrap members of a campaign because they believe the candidate poses a National Security Threat, that can be reasonably described as a "soft coup"
Later, of course, the top person in the Justice Department and the top person in the FBI got together to plot extra-legal presidential removal schemes, such as "wearing a wire" and recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment on spurious grounds

The Young Turks did a really dumb segment suggesting that CNN had maliciously skewed a poll to downplay Bernie and boost Biden. This led to Nate Silver rightfully skewering them. As a past target of Nate’s sassy trolling, it pains me to say this, but I stand with Nate
Nate is mostly reliable when he’s talking about the pure mechanics of polling, models, and related methodological stuff. He gets dumb when he’s just opining pundit-style on random stuff
Objecting to how media frames or emphasizes polling is perfectly fair: i've done it many times, and will continue to do so. But making specious claims about the methodology because it doesn't produce the outcome you want is just stupid. Motivated reasoning in action
