It’s time for us all to accept a reality:

Nancy Pelosi isn’t lying about her position. She isn’t crafting some secret bait-and-switch.

There is no secret 12-dimensional chess plan to lie to the public up until unveiling an ultra-sneaky impeachment plan.

Nancy Pelosi has, for over a year now, telegraphed that she does not want to go down the impeachment path.

Historically, her positions have been driven by knowing what she can and cannot turn into a political win for Democrats in the House.

Emphasis: *political* win

We all know Republicans will not vote for impeachment in the Senate.

So, there is no impeachment trial win on the table.

There is only the potential for a political win or loss.

Pelosi has repeatedly signaled she believes it would be a loss.

It is reasonable to trust her judgment on what she can pull off in the House.

It is reasonable to defer to her judgment on whether she can score a political touchdown on an impeachment play.

It is reasonable to entrust the decision to her even if you disagree.

A quarterback knows how far they can throw the ball.

If a quarterback says they can’t throw a 60-yard Hail Mary, it doesn’t matter how much the fans want them to.

The quarterback knows better.

And Pelosi is a good QB.

So, it seems to me it’s time we face reality and process that Nancy Pelosi does not believe she can pursue impeachment and produce a win of any kind for Dems.

We can accept that and agree or accept that and disagree. We should accept it though.

It isn’t helpful (IMHO) to indulge the magical thinking that there is a secret plan afoot which somehow involves repeatedly lying to the public only to yank back the curtain and reveal an “AHA!”

When Pelosi says she doesn’t want to pursue impeachment, believe her.

Rolling forward the hope that the Mueller report would be the end of Trump into a new conspiracy theory-like hope that there’s a secret Dem impeachment plan isn’t grounded in reality.

It requires believing Nancy Pelosi is a manipulative liar rather than a frank tactician.

Sitting around imagining backroom master plans despite their alleged engineers openly saying they oppose that path is wishful thinking.

It is a waste of time and energy and will result in only disappointment.

I happen to trust Pelosi’s judgment on what she can accomplish...

I take some issue with how Dems are managing the messaging - but I trust and defer to Nancy Pelosi’s judgment on the direction.

Pelosi is and has always been a straight shooter.

When she tells you what direction she favors, believe her.

We’re free to agree or disagree with the path Speaker Pelosi has repeatedly telegraphed (focusing on 2020).

Twitter fights over imagined secret plans aren’t helping anyone.

Back her or don’t. But base it on reality. There’s no plan to impeach - secret or otherwise.
