What's worse than having a milkshake thrown at you?

- Being abused or harassed for your skin colour, religion or sex.

- Watching figures who incite hatred getting regularly invites on the media.

Way I see it, if you don't want to be milkshaked, don't incite hatred. Simple.
Our pleas to have a 'better public debate' have fallen on deaf ears even after Jo Cox was murdered in broad daylight.

We keep calling for civility, while people like Farage and Tommy Robinson keep escalating their rhetoric.

They're taking advantage of us. I'm sick of it.
This idea that things will 'get worse' because Farage got milkshaked is bonkers. Worse than an MP being murdered?

That rubicon has already been crossed, and Farage has faced *no* consequences for his violent rhetoric since then.

So why should we sit back and do nothing?
Nigel Farage himself said "violence was the next step" for people like him who feel "we've lost control". Did anyone in the media condemn him for that? No, he got more invites.

So spare me this rubbish about our "worsening public debate".

No one on the right was losing their shit when this happened to @Ed_Miliband, who had the courage to react by laughing it off.

Meanwhile, Farage and the right are throwing a hissy fit. Cry me a fucking river

Really hate the way this kind of evidence-free, uninformed bollocks is still given prominence on the liberal left.

For a start, ALL the evidence shows cultural integration in Britain is increasing not decreasing. Its had *zero* impact on strength of far-right.

When my parents generation came to Britain, they bent over backwards to integrate. Most men would only go out wearing suits and ties, and they learnt English.

It was also the time the National Front freely marched on the street and attempts at integration made no difference.
Nevertheless, all the evidence shows there is increasing racial and cultural integration in Britain. Prove me wrong.

Go ahead! Show me the evidence, not anecdotes or far-right memes.

There's been much debate on accepting a new definition of 'Islamophobia', which Tory MPs and various commentators reject.

I was one of those who disliked the term 'Islamophobia' as imprecise. But I changed my mind.

Esp since many arguments against it are awful 1/n

 For e.g., @JamesCleverly MP makes two ridiculous arguments:

1) some Muslims are against the definition
2) Muslims are not a race

Both these claims also apply to Jews and anti-Semitism. So why not apply it to them too?

Remember there were Jews against the IHRA definition of A-S too.

Yet the Tory party did not consider their views important. And we (rightly) ignored the voice of a minority over the majority.

So why does that standard apply to Jews but not Muslims? 🙄

So I've been tweeting for the last few days about the Birmingham school where (largely Muslim) parents have been organising against the 'No Outsiders' LGBT programme.

People need to pay more attention because this controversy is likely to get bigger.

If we don't stand up for children being taught that there's nothing wrong with being LGBT and such bullying is wrong, it will be a huge setback.

This controversy is no longer about Muslims because conservative Jews, Christians and Sikhs are also rallying to their side. 2/n
In a video posted today of a rally outside the school, one of the mobilisers says, 'we want to stop these lessons not just in Birmingham but across the country'.

He also says the problem is it teaches children its ok for you to be Muslim and be gay.

The 1st thing to say is that there are political bullies in & around @UKLabour. It’s unfortunate that this is the case, but it would be delusional to deny it. Like all bullies, they rely on not being confronted & throughout the New Labour years, this was the case. (2/8)
Because of the lack of challenge, these people grew used to having their own way & go about their business without any hindrances, whether that was party selections, control over CLPs, or at conference. This embedded a culture of entitlement, which remains to this day. (3/8)

Most of the abuses that this sector of media is critical about come from internet giants, who pay lip service in response, because those abuses are very profitable, & regulation is unlikely in the US & users not motivated enough to change their usage of networks. /2
US regulation that would help stop the criticized practices is unlikely to help, mainly because Congress isn't qualified to design these regulations, so they would leave it to lobbyists working for the industry to be regulated /3

Oh how exciting! I have thoughts on this one. I don't get to #ExposeChristianSchools, I just watched other people from afar. But I sure have thoughts about #ExposeChristianHomeschooling because I definitely did that. I was "homeschooled" until I was 16 or 17 years old.
My mother homeschooled my brothers and I to protect us from the godless public schools and because they couldn't afford private (or I'm sure I'd be on the other tag with the rest of you). Washington state has stricter homeschool laws than some states, which means very little.
Here's the link for the WA state law. You'll see you're required to have taken 45 credits at some point or taken a "Parent Qualifying Course." While looking this up, I have realized you can AUDIT the parent qualifying course, which is about 4 hours long.
