(2/n) Among the big-5 traits, Gensowski finds that the largest effects on earnings as

● High conscientiousness
● High extraversion
● Low agreeableness

A very high IQ sample, and even within this restricted sample, IQ was also associated with earnings.

(3/n) Indeed, general intelligence (g) has repeatedly been found to predict earnings. This appears to be mostly a result of general intelligence, rather than specific cognitive abilities.

(4/n) Furnham & Cheng find that general intelligence measured at age 10 predicts later financial well-being at age 38.

Locus of control was as well (the belief that you're in control of your own life outcomes)

(5/n) General mental ability not only predicts starting wage, but salary growth. Higher intelligent people have faster salary growth.

(6/n) It is true within families as well. The sibling with the higher general cognitive ability earns more, has higher occupational prestige, and is higher educated (on average) despite them growing up in the same household.

What do women want career-wise as they become mothers? 👩‍👧‍👦

I've gathered a few surveys related to this question. (1/n)
(2/n) Pew research has asked in 3 surveys about mothers' ideal situation in work/life-balance.

Consistently, nearly half say that they prefer part time work.

The rest of the half is roughly equally split between preferring full time and preferring no work at all (stay at home).
(3/n) So there is definitely great variety. Some women prefer working full time, but most say that their ideal situation is less than full time, either part time or stay at home.

(1/5) THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF INNOVATION IN THE UNITED STATES

Men are substantially overrepresented among innovators, with women representing just about 12% overall.

One reason is that most innovation comes from engineering and technology which are male-dominated fields.
(2/5) The vast majority of innovation is done by whites and asians. Hispanic and black people are substantially underrepresented among innovators.

Some immigrant groups innovate at disproportionately high rates including Europeans, East Asians and Indians.
(3/5) The mean age of innovation is between 40 and 50 years old, but with large variation. Men tend to innovate slightly later than women.

1/n So a new study came out, and it's a perfect example of how wishful thinking leads to poor scholarship and science.

The study purports to show that teachers' "growth mindset" is an important contributor to the underperformance of ethnic minorities in school.
2/n First, the study is based on "stereotype threat" and "growth mindset"—two concepts of social psychology that have replicated notoriously poorly.

Why base a study on the concept of "stereotype threat" when the largest ever study found no effect?

3/n The effect that they find is incredibly weak and incredibly statistically insignificant. The standard of p<0.05 is a joke. Personally, I don't take tests with p>0.01 to be significant, and I find that to be generous even. P<0.001 is where it's at.

Listen pal. I won’t advise you to put too much emphasis on that. Rather, I will advise you do the business that will make you money.

When you start to make money, use the proceeds to pursue your dream business, career, charity or fantasy. If you’re lucky to be in a business that you love and is making you money, congratulations. However, do not dump a potentially profitable business because you don’t love it.
I am not a fan of the Big Brother show but I will love to own it because it’s a hugely successful show. I am not a basket ball fan but I will like to own an NBA franchise. I don’t like to hear the word valentine but I can build a business around it.

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana - the scheme is the scam. It's not about one private corporation, but over a dozen of them benefit in crores of rupees of public money. #Thread
The scheme's design ensures the siphoning off of over giant sums of public money to private corporations and to a couple of public insurers (in line for privatisation).
In the past three years over Rs. 66,000 crores of state govt. money and central govt money (i.e. public money) have been poured into the PMFBY's operations. (Apart from the premiums paid up by farmers)
