1. Democratic Party and the Electoral College
How bereft of any ability to sell voters on its policy ideas does a party have to be to think that it can only ever win the presidency by changing the Constitution? Today's Democratic Party is remarkably pathetic. Allow me to explain.
2. The Democrats would have you believe that they are opposed to the Electoral College because it gives too much weight to smaller states at the cost of the larger states like California and New York which happen to be blue. That is, to put it charitably, bullshit!
3. There is some over-weighting of smaller states in the legislature through the way the Constitution constituted the Senate by allocating two Senators to each state regardless of its population size. But it has never mattered for the purposes of a presidential election.
4. Yes, the total number of Electoral Votes is the sum of the number of members of Congress in the House and the Senate (plus, the District of Columbia (D.C.) is entitled to a number of electors no greater than that of the least populous state (i.e. 3)).
5. Hence the total number of Electoral Votes = 435 + 100 + 3 = 538.

Donald Trump won 306 electoral votes to Hillary's 232. Donald Trump also won 30 States to Hillary's 20.
6. So if you throw out the 100 electoral votes attributable to the Senate, Trump would still have won handily 246 to 192 electoral votes, and all of those votes are allocated to States directly in proportion to the State's population size.
7. So it has nothing to do with each state having two Senators. What exactly is the Democratic temper tantrum about then? It is this. They don't like the fact that our Constitution prescribes a "winner take all" mechanism for electoral votes State by State.
8. As an imperfect analogy, Democrats would like a Tennis match to be decided not by the number of sets won but by the number of games won, they would like the World Series to be decided not by the number of games won but by the number of runs scored throughout the series.
9. This is childish thinking based on two presidential election results over two centuries. Democrats have lost all confidence in being able to win the presidency again fairly. They are psychologically scarred by Hillary's loss in 2016.
10. Why are Democrats turning so furiously against the "winner take all" which they happen to mislabel as Electoral College? Because they were jilted and jolted by it.
11. Remember, till 8:00PM on election night 2016, Democrats and their cheerleaders in the liberal mainstream media were counting on the Electoral College to put Hillary over the top. They were calling it Hillary's Blue Wall. Trump wasn't supposed to be able to breach it.
