I express my frustration with Democratic leadership and some liberals because I covered the 2016 election. Many of us people of color, in particular, warned to take Trump's agenda literally and seriously. We were told to relax and that he wouldn't be so bad if elected. Well... 1/
Now we see, every day, how corrupt and cruel the Trump Administration is. We were told institutional Republicans would act as a check and mainstream him. Nope. Trump is the figurehead of the party. Trumpism is here to stay. He is their "blunt instrument" for their goals. 2/
If you dont believe me, listen to their own words. Bannon and white evangelical leaders have said Trump is their instrument. McConnell will ride him for his agenda. 90% of the base loves him so Lindsey Graham does a 180 and echoes all Trump's talking points. Trump corrupts all 3/
Republicans have turned on law enforcement(!!!), judges, Robert Mueller (Republican), John McCain, Justin Amash, basically everything and everyone who goes against Trump. That's what happens in dictatorships. They also have state propaganda: right wing media infrastructure 4/
Old school Democrats believe this is an anomaly and Trumpism will disappear. Wrong. White nationalist talking points are now mainstream. They are more emboldened and extreme. Most will burn it down for Trump because 90% of the base loves him. These are not normal times. So...5/
You need to acknowledge that you're dealing with bad faith actors who have put Trump, power and few policy goals above country, ethics, rule of law and national security. You can't bring a policy paper to a knife fight when the other side will bring a bazooka and dragons. 6/
Which is why Democrats need a war time consigliere who can guide them through these unprecedented times & be on the offensive against a Trump Administration that will corrupt everything. (Also next time pay more attention to people of color who warned about all this.) Rant ENDS.
