Yes, I’m aware he’s stump-ignorant about animal behavior.
Not my point. My point is his line of reasoning didn’t go where he wanted it to.

He’s trying to show humans are not a higher lifeform than animals. His argument is “we aren’t morally superior to animals because of our capacity for evil. Beings that do evil are worse than ones that don’t. Etc.” But are capacity for evil is a consequence of our higher being.
You might as well say animals are better than humans at NOT producing bad scientific theories or bad comedy or bad works of art. They don’t do badly what they can’t do. Animals are, to paraphrase Nietzsche, “below good and evil.”
