So, an interesting thing I contemplate often is how anti-Semitic rhetoric gets into the “mainstream” so to speak. Here’s an example:
Where did Lauren Southern get this story about Jews creating t he Canadian Nazi Party to provoke hate crimes? From neo-Nazis, including a Canadian neo-Nazi named John Beattie, founder of the Canadian Nazi Party.
In 2000, Beattie was supposed to be a witness for a Holocaust denier named Paul Fromm, who was helping another Holocaust denier, Ernst Zundel (who wrote a pamphlet entitled “The Hitler We Loved and Why”) who was appearing before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
Fromm wanted Beattie to testify that he had been a “patsy” of "agents for the Canadian Jewish Congress.”
Now, what had ACTUALLY happened is that a private investigator hired by the CJC did, in fact, infiltrate the Canadian Nazi Party, and found that it was full of disorganized morons. Here’s the 1966 piece that investigator wrote. macleans.ca/archives/my-16…
(One fascinating detail: the existing relationships between neo-Nazis across international borders was present in 1966)
But the Canadian Jewish Congress did not “back up” or “egg on” Beattie, nor did it do so for the Canadian Nazi Party (or as it was later called, the Canadian National Socialist Party, because Beattie decided that “Nazi” was a slur.)
This just didn’t happen, no matter how much Lauren Southern wishes it did, for reasons I am sure aren’t at all anti-Semitic. Totally sure. 100 percent.
I often make a point about guardrails. Guardrails are important, because otherwise, one winds up careening headlong into Lauren Southern relying on a neo-Nazi to explain how Jews were responsible for the formation of the Canadian Nazi Party.
As I’ve said before, the person who hates the libs just as much as you do is not always a reliable ally in the forward march of conservative thought.
Sometimes, they’re a white nationalist who relies on neo-Nazis to explain how Nazi are the fault of those dang Jews.
(Also, the anti-Semitism of someone on your side is not “good” anti-Semitism, it’s just anti-Semitism you’re more or less okay with.)
(And for the WHAT ABOUT LOUIS FARRAKHAN people: he’s an anti-Semitic bigot who thinks lesbians are the fault of Jewish influence, a thing I have said many times.)
Anyway, guardrails!
(I should also note here that Beattie ran for office in 2011 and said of his town in Ontario that his favorite thing about it was that it was all-white. “Different cultures, I can’t handle them. I can’t handle other cultures. I’m happy with my own kind.” nationalpost.com/news/canada/ca…)
