This thread might get long. I am also going to try and put some of these books into historical context to explain why I think they’re worthwhile.
Let’s talk first about American Nazism and American fascism pre-WW2.
"Hitler's American Friends: The Third Reich's Supporters in the United States" amazon.com/Hitlers-Americ…
"Swastika Nation: Fritz Kuhn and the Rise and Fall of the German-American Bund" amazon.com/Swastika-Natio…
"William Dudley Pelley: A Life in Right-Wing Extremism and the Occult"
amazon.com/William-Dudley…
Alright, now let's turn to the rise of Nazism in Germany, and some good books on the Third Reich itself.
The best series on the Third Reich is Richard Evans’, particularly “The Third Reich at War” amazon.com/Third-Reich-tr…
Perhaps the best known text is “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich,” which I would also recommend, but with the note that since its publication in 1960 we’ve learned a lot. amazon.com/Rise-Fall-Thir…
And I’d also make the controversial choice of recommending “Inside the Third Reich,” written by Albert Speer, Hitler’s Minister of Armaments and War Production. amazon.com/Inside-Third-R…
Speer wrote the book while in prison at Spandau, and he writes the book very much with two goals in mind: explain what happened, and also explain how he didn’t have much to do with it.
(If I recall correctly, he spends more time detailing happy memories of canoeing with his wife than he does explaining how he joined the Nazi Party to begin with. So there’s that.)
Okay, on to better recommendations:

"The Eastern Front, 1941-45: German Troops and the Barbarisation of Warfare”

amazon.com/Eastern-Front-…
I also have to recommend "Ivan's War: Life and Death in the Red Army, 1939-1945” here also amazon.com/Ivans-War-Life…
“Hitler,” by Joachim Fest amazon.com/Hitler-Harvest…

And “Hitler: A Biography” by Ian Kershaw amazon.com/Hitler-Biograp…
This is a more academic pick, but “The Law in Nazi Germany: Ideology, Opportunism, and the Perversion of Justice” details the legal underpinnings of Nazi courts and judges berghahnbooks.com/title/Steinwei…
“Hitler and Stalin: Parallel Lives” amazon.com/Hitler-Stalin-…
This is a personal choice, but I read Maus 1+2 for the first time when I was nine years old and it changed me. Can’t recommend it more highly. amazon.com/Complete-Maus-…
Okay, now on to military strategy:

"Panzer Commander: The Memoirs of Colonel Hans Von Luck” amazon.com/Panzer-Command…
This is tough and expensive to get, but “Hitler’s Table Talk” was essential to me when I wrote my thesis. It’s basically a collection of his off-the-record conversations and statements. amazon.com/Hitlers-Table-…
This is a book written in 1935 by Rommel, detailing his experiences during WW1 and the military strategy he grew to favor then. amazon.com/Infantry-Attac…
And now, let’s turn to Stalingrad.
"Stalingrad: The Fateful Siege: 1942-1943” amazon.com/Stalingrad-Fat…
"Russia's War: A History of the Soviet Effort: 1941-1945”

amazon.com/Russias-War-Hi…
"To the Gates of Stalingrad: Soviet-German Combat Operations, April-August 1942” amazon.com/Gates-Stalingr…
Okay, that is all the books I would recommend for now.
(Some are asking about my thoughts on Hannah Arendt, we do not have the time on this platform for my thoughts on Hannah Arendt)
