This’ll be a short thread so bare with me.

The consequences of our dwindling herd immunity have finally hit close to home.

Yesterday, my pregnant wife, who was fully vaccinated against measles, was told she’s unfortunately not immune.

1/
She was told by the nurse at the end of the call: “By the way, don’t plan any travel to Saint John”

Saint John is home to her.

It’s where her whole family is.

It was understandably a hard pill to swallow.

2/
On top of this, we have been planning a trip with friends to NYC later in this June.

Now everyone is scrambling, checking vaccination records, calling public health, etc.

Pharmacies have “no available vaccines”, all have been rerouted for the outbreak.

3/
I did receive two MMR shots, but I’m making certain I am immune, hence the bloodwork done in the middle of a busy clinic

4/
We’ve decided we’re still going, but will be avoiding the most affected boroughs.

Still, it’s adding an extra level of apprehension to what should’ve been a well-needed, stress-free vacation.

5/
What’s most upsetting about it is this could’ve avoided.

All of it.

We could be protecting the most vulnerable of us, which now includes my wife and our pregnancy, against this disease.

6/
If the current climate doesn’t improve, if our herd immunity continues to decrease, these inconveniences, these changed plans, these sleepless nights won’t be limited to a few.

7/
The lucky ones will simply be sick with worry.

Others will become sick.

Then someone will die.

Please don’t let it be us.

End/
Ugh ‘bear’ not ‘bare’.

Oh well!
