Coming to you from @tri_continental is a fantastic dossier on the concept of the hybrid war - the mechanisms used by imperialism in our time - with the focus on Venezuela, a full spectrum domination to prepare for regime change. You can read it here: thetricontinental.org/dossier-17-ven….
What makes this dossier even more special is that it was produced collectively by our offices in Buenos Aires & São Paulo, with assistance from scholars & militants from Colombia, Haiti and Venezuela. It uses the concept of hybrid war to understand what is going on to Venezuela.
We document the repertoire of tactics, but also the motives behind them. We are interested not only in the recent attack on Venezuela, but in the similarities between this attack & others in Latin America over the past decades.
his general onslaught in Latin America needs to be understood not in terms of the war against this country or that one, but in terms of the method of domination that shape the current neo-liberal and imperialist offensive in the region.
Please share this dossier widely. It is available at our website - thetricontinental.org - for free download in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
The newsletter that will go out tomorrow - the 23rd from 2019 - is focused on this dossier and on the hybrid war on Venezuela. To subscribe to the newsletter, go to our website. You can get it free.
Why is Canada leading the charge in the Lima Group against Venezuela? My column this week - available here (portside.org/2019-06-04/can…) - zeroes in on Canadian hypocrisy. It is Canadian mining companies that are driving the agenda; not 'human rights'.
For those who want to understand Canada’s foreign policy, don’t spend years studying its human rights statements. Put your hand into the dirt, touch the ore under the soil—that’s where Canadian foreign policy is rooted. - portside.org/2019-06-04/can….
For more on these Canadian mining companies, see our @tri_continental Briefing no. 1 on the top ten Canadian mining firms and their scandals - thetricontinental.org/ten-canadian-m….
For a focus on one of these mining firms and its barbarity, see my report from Papua New Guinea - reported earlier this year - from @Salon: salon.com/2019/05/03/we-….
You say: Imperialism is an anachronistic concept.
I say: Look at the behaviour of Canada in Papua New Guinea and Venezuela, and elsewhere.
Friends: I wanted to be a sport's reporter. I wanted to cover cricket matches. Seriously. But here I am, my nose in the armpit of imperialism, covering brutality after brutality. It is not enough to report this stuff or to read about it. We have to change the world.
